the story of Jesus

starts long before He was born. In fact, it starts long before the birth of the world in the Old Testament. From the very beginning of time, God planned to send Himself to earth in the form of Jesus. Therefore the Old Testament is not just a record for history’s purpose; it is the story of God’s redemptive plan for His people. It contains all the building blocks to construct the greatest Temple ever built - a temple that would be torn down and rebuilt in just three days. If we don’t follow the people and stories of the Old Testament, and if we don’t connect those people and stories to Jesus, we miss out on seeing God’s deep and intentional love for us. We cannot possibly understand how great our reward is if we jump straight to the resolution.

Our Long-Expected Gift

CONTAINS A BIBLICAL STORY WRITTEN IN POEM FORM FOR EACH NIGHT IN DECEMBER.

The stories start with creation in Genesis and go through Jesus’s family lineage, ending with Christ’s birth in the New Testament. The characters are a part of Jesus’s family tree, and their stories point forward to His birth. Each poem shows the connection between God’s works and His end purpose, thereby allowing us to trace

God’s redemptive plan throughout all of Scripture. The goal of Our Long-Expected Gift is to prepare hearts for Christmas Day. The hope is for the truth to ring in the hearts of all readers, and as they anticipate Christmas, to have no greater desire than their desire for Jesus.

Julie Meyer has a passion for God's Word and a desperate desire to share God’s incredible story and deep love with everyone. This drive was the force behind Our Long-Expected Gift.

Julie’s vision for Our Long-Expected
Gift was for the book to be as pleasing
to the eye as it is to the heart. Kate accomplishes this with her beautiful watercolors that perfectly intertwine Biblical stories with modern day Christmas scenes.

noah

God set the rainbow in the sky, promising no more floods.

Evil is conquered, not by rain, but by Jesus's blood.

Come aboard the Ark! Be saved from the world of sin!

For Jesus Christ invites all those who believe to come in!

Joseph

Out of this family came Jesse, and years later, Jesus came from them, too.

Through Joseph's story, Jesus was born to save me and you.

Even during the story of Joseph and his brothers, God was planning Christmas Day.

God used the brothers' sin to accomplish His good and pleasing way.

Rahab

This red cord is not a rope like the one Rahab hung from her inn,

Our red cord is the blood of Jesus, the blood shed for our own sin.

If you trust the blood saves us from the judgment of our Lord

Then you will enter heaven and claim your Great Reward.

The Angel

december

Then the angel of the Lord departed from Mary, but all that he said came to be,

And on Christmas Day, Jesus Christ was born to save both you and me!

Do you see how every story in the Bible points us forward to Jesus's birth?

Can you think of any greater gift on this earth?
